Robustness of 40 Gb/s ASK modulation formats in the practical system infrastructure.
2006
In this work, we analyzed by means of numerical and laboratory experiments the resilience of 40 Gb/s amplitude shift keying modulation formats to transmission impairments in standard single-mode fiber lines as well as to optical filtering introduced by the optical add/drop multiplexer cascade. Our study is a pre-requisite to assess the implementation of cost-effective 40 Gb/s modulation technology in next generation high bit-rate robust optical transport networks. © 2006 Optical Society of America.
First demonstration of active plasmonic device in true data traffic conditions: On/off thermo-optic modulation using a hybrid silicon-plasmonic asymm…
2012
We demonstrate the first system-level evaluation of an active plasmonic device in 10Gb/s data traffic conditions. Thermo-optic ON/OFF modulation with 3μs response time and 10mW power consumption is presented using an asymmetric MZI silicon-plasmonic gate.
Experimental Demonstration of 50-Mb/s Visible Light Communications Using 4<inline-formula> <tex-math notation="TeX">$\,\times\,$ </tex…
2014
This letter reports the experimental demonstration of an indoor visible light nonimaging multiple-input multiple-output system with an aggregate error free bit rate of 50 Mb/s over a distance of 2 m. The system uses four independent white LED transmitters, each transmitting 12.5 Mb/s of data in the ON-OFF keying nonreturn zero format, and four independent nonimaging optical receivers. The performance of four detection methods ranging from the basic channel inversion to the more advanced space time techniques is compared experimentally. The results gathered demonstrate that the simplest technique is capable of the same bit error rate as the most complex scheme. The system also provides full …
Ethernet FSO Communications Link Performance Study Under a Controlled Fog Environment
2012
In this letter the performance of a free space optical (FSO) communication link in the presence of fog is experimentally investigated in an indoor environment. A dedicated indoor atmospheric chamber, replicating the outdoor environment, is being used to evaluate the FSO link performance under the fog condition. Theoretical analysis supported by the experimental evaluation has been carried out for the intensity modulation/direct detection on-off keying non-return-to-zero (OOK-NRZ), OOK return-to-zero (OOK-RZ) and four pulse position modulation (4-PPM) modulation formats at the Ethernet baseline data-rate. The results shown indicate that the 4-PPM signalling scheme is the most robust to the f…
Evaluation of all-optical demultiplexing in millimeter-wave subcarrier-system for wireless communication
2006
In this paper, a scheme for multiplexing millimeter-wave carriers on a single optical carrier and using an all-optical millimeter-wave demultiplexer is presented. The optical demultiplexing of radio-over-fiber signals is based on dual sideband modulation with suppressed optical carrier combined with the filtering properties of dual over-written fiber Bragg gratings. The performance of the system is investigated using a single optical carrier and independent data modulated millimeter-wave signals at 20 and 40 GHz. The signals are transmitted over optical fiber, demultiplexed and wirelessly distributed to a mobile unit. It is found that performance of the demultiplexing using fiber Bragg grat…
CSRZ-ASK and DPSK 40 Gb/s All-Raman WDM Transmission Based on UltraWave Fiber
2006
In this paper, we report a complete experimental and numerical analysis of 40 Gb/s WDM ultra long-haul (ULH) transmission using CSRZ-DPSK and CSRZ-ASK modulation formats on UltraWavetrade fiber spans. Experimental results compare well with full numerical simulations
